Steven Pizer
Dr. Pizer serves as Chief Economist for the Partnered Evidence-based Policy Resource Center (PEPReC) for the Department of Veterans Affairs, located at the VA Boston Healthcare System. He is also a Professor of Health Law, Policy and Management and Director of the PhD Program in Health Services and Policy Research at the Boston University School of Public Health.
His research interests include health econometrics, program evaluation, comparative effectiveness, access to care, and the economics of public and private health insurance. His previous work studied health care financing decisions and health outcomes of Veterans who were jointly eligible for coverage from Medicare or Medicaid and the VA. In addition, he provided expert advice and conducted analyses of the Medicare Advantage program for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Currently, Dr. Pizer is investigating the effects of variations in clinical resources and management on quality of care, including developing and validating performance measures in informatics, access to care, community care and workforce management. He is also helping to lead VA's implementation of the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2018, including developing and analyzing randomized program evaluations with several VA national program offices.
